Flat tires. They always seem to pop up at the most inopportune time. Although sometimes they aren’t just an inconvenience they can be downright scary. It’s important to know what to do when faced with a flat tire. We have a few tips to help at Pamby Motors Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM.

When you first realize you have a flat tire, it’s important to take precautions to change it to protect yourself. Carefully pull to the side of the road or into a parking lot. Check your surroundings to be sure you are in a safe location and you are away from traffic before exiting your vehicle. You also want to change it as quickly as possible to protect your vehicle. After all, driving on a flat tire can cause internal structural damage.

Start by gathering the necessary equipment including your spare tire, tire iron, and jack. You need to first loosen the lug nuts on the flat. Keep in mind, they can be very tight. Next, you need to jack up your vehicle high enough, so the tire no longer touches the ground. Then, completely remove the lug nuts and the flat tire. Finally, put on the spare tire and fasten it with the same lug nuts.

Keep in mind, spare tires are optional on some Jeep SUVs, such as select models on the 2019 Jeep Compass. Instead, some come with a tire repair kit which allows you to patch or repair your tire until you can get to the dealership for a replacement.

You also need to quickly replace your spare tire with a new tire from our Fairfield County auto service center since they should never be driven on too long. Stop by and see us soon – your safety is our utmost concern.
